LATE ON MY PART GAH
How did I not see that you had reblogged this until now?! xD I apologize, seriously. I’ve been preoccupied - with midterms and then with surgery. Had my gallbladder out yesterday, so please excuse me if I sound a little … drugged. xD (I’m not terribly incoherent, but I still feel a bit twitchy.)
Oh man, me too! Especially acknowledging the overall differences in culture as well. The north of Italy is much more Germanic in nature - there are some parts near the borders where Italian and German are both spoken by the locals. I have that same hope about Prussia. I try to pass on a little slice of my passion about Prussian history and Old Fritz to anyone who will listen to my historical ramblings.
I take associations even further than that. xD I’ll think of both of them when I see East and West. xD Hilarious when you look at my school’s campus - the West side is all science-y and medicine related, and the East is liberal arts and partying.
Ohhhh, fail on my part there. I should have known he’d disable hotlinking. xD Here it is again, uploaded from my computer instead of just his site:

And then little!Germany in his pickelhaube:

His gallery is unreliable in terms of updates, as is Hetarchive (the LJ archiving site), although the latter is good for older things that are hard to find. So many sketches, this man.
I remember someone wrote something really fascinating about that, too. Based on an old trope in myths, the King Under the Mountain. I know one is from the Brothers Grimm, and thus Germanic in origin. Found a bit about it here. The idea of a king waiting to emerge really echoes strongly of Germany to me.
*runs back to check previous entries for use of Hima-Papa* Duly noted. xD I’ve used it, and I do like it personally, but I can see why someone wouldn’t. I’m always overly touchy-feely, and creators of my favorite things are no exception to that rule.
Here’s hoping they don’t! And no worries whatsoever, I make little mistakes like that all the time. It’s been a long while since I’ve seen Hetalia, in all honesty. xD I love the series, but I just don’t watch the anime often.
Pfff, I can’t pace myself either. Especially with George’s fics. They’re so well-written. Thank you for the links! From a cursory scan of them, she’s a lot more articulate than a lot of the fics I’ve seen. Some people need a beta like a drowning man needs a lifevest. At least her grammar is correct.
Oh yeah. xD It’s something that goes different ways for different people. USUK fans say the same about FrUK, I’ve seen. But I love bicker-y relationships in general, personally. (You wouldn’t guess from Gerita being my OTP though. xD) There’s something fun about two people showing affection by always harassing one another.
That’s a very unfortunate truth there. At least, to the best of my knowledge, the law is currently on our side - although I think it’s debatable. Reputation-wise it certainly is not, and there are far too many close-minded people out there. I can’t even talk about Sandusky, it makes me so furious. My family’s from Pittsburgh on my mother’s and father’s sides, so having a scandal associated with the city hits really deep. I still can’t believe that someone could see - see! - a child being raped and not report it to the police immediately. It sickens me.
Oh God, yeah. I forgot if I’ve said it before, but our fandom is just close enough to some really sensitive material that when we get those idiot fans, they can really mess up. I went to my first convention the year of that Anime Boston debacle, and the scars were still very much fresh - there were a ton of rules for the photoshoots, and rightfully so.
Cosplay can be the most fun experience or the worst. I went as Italy that first year, and I had the cutest Germany befriend me. It was wonderful. She joked around in character, chatted with me, and was really, really kind. Adorable. But I’ve encountered some people who act very entitled towards cosplayers too, like your photoshoot homophobe. There was an amazing Prussia last year I was hanging out with who was creeped by this one really annoying fan. The fan wanted Germancest pictures, but the Prussia cosplayer casually apologized and explained that she didn’t ship them that way so she didn’t feel comfortable posing like that. But this chick would not let up. Tried to get into an argument as to why everyone should ship Germancest, tried to get other people to back her up… rude and embarrassing, needless to say. » Alas, there will always be rude people, and thus always rude fans.
Ahh. More than I do at any rate! I watch the news, but I don’t listen to radio often. I’ll be voting for president my first time in this upcoming election. In my opinion, Obama deserves another term. He kept a lot more promises than I am used to politicians keeping.
Europe had ACTA going around too, though. That was also a bit dangerous - although it would have taken more legislation in each country to become what SOPA was. I’m glad we managed to stop that one, too. I actually called my senator, which had never happened before. xD Very fun.
Ohhhh yes, these! xD I love these! I had forgotten about them. Thanks for the laughs. Still can’t get over the French one with English as “slayers of virgins.” Perfection.
